can't get to storm alter

I got the stormriven quest to defeat the storm guy, but I can't get to the alter. I think the purple pillars are obelisks, but I stand in front of them and nothing happens. Please help. I really need to do this.

Just go to a crowded realm and you will have a chance of fighting him.
