Sometimes when I start up Wizard 101, my character is shown having a ponytail, when she really has long straight hair. The ponytail has changed colors as I move about too. Then suddenly the hair snaps back to the black straight hair.
It's an issue with the server update using a default setting until it can load the correct one. It doesn't effect gameplay and shouldn't last more than a minute or two.
