I believe that Khrysalis is inspired by how Morganthe is a "spider-like" queen with her bug-like appendages on her back. The editors at KI probably found this as a good idea for the last world of the second arc with an opportunity to add some story to the third arc. But that's just what I think. Maybe someone can give us some more info?
