I noticed that I had the wrong deck equipped when I said that all shields block Balance. But I've noticed some new ways to getting around shields for each school really, it's just too easy:
Storm: Wild Bolt, Lightning Bats, Wand, Thunder Snake, convert before Storm Shield. Fire: Any DoT they have basically, it's no problem, wand, Fire Prism before Fire Shield. Ice:Frostbite, use Snow Angel anyways, wand. Life: Leprechaun/wand. Death: Poison/Skeletal Dragon anyways. Myth: Shatter,Pierce, Basilisk anyways, Frog pet anyways. Balance:Hydra,Spectral Blast, Chimera.
