So, am I doing something wrong? Everytime, I sign up for a PVP match, either ranked or practice, I wait and wait, forever. Tonight, I have waited about 4 hours for a 4x4 ranked match, and still am in the queue. My team was filled within minutes. How do people get enough matches for badges?

It depends a lot on when you sign up, what time it is. I would suggest checking the que and see how many 4v4 matches are going on at that time. If only a few are, then you will wait, sometimes hours to get a match. I have waited several hours, even for a 1v1 match sometimes.
