I'll keep this brief: Why do the Azteca spells get so much hate? They seem awesome, with insane damage and nice animations. Why are they such a "waste of pips"

Ah, I remember all that backlash against the spells.

From what I remember, many player were not pleased they were based off of dinosaurs and that, for Myth, a calender had nothing to do with the school (I'm guesses dinosaurs just aren't as cool as they used to be). Also many found the animations dull or uncreative. Not only that, but the current challenge to get these spells is very hard for some. Going against 3 solo isn't exactly fun for many.

I, personally, love my Avenging Fossil spell. I feel so satisfied to have and because the challenge was so hard for some, to have overcome that challenge is like a milestone. I'm content will all the Azteca spells as they are. I look forward to many more spells based off of our main world expansions

This type of challenge doesn't work for me and I don't think I am alone in that thinking. By the time I got there on my 2nd wizard I just hired the 2 henchmen and finished it in one fight - easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Those who don't play the game as well as you and/or can't afford henchmen deserve these spells too or am I wrong?

They are uneven in power level between the schools.

A lot of Death complain about AF because pip for pip, it's a strictly inferior damage spell when a boosted Frankie is almost categorically better. Same with Sabertooth, underwhelming damage and a really situational free shields doesn't cut the mustard.

Calendar is a great spell, but it is too expensive for what it does. As for flavor, it's a stretch, but you COULD envision the spell as "the planets align, and create a temporal paradox, rolling back your pip development and causing you considerable pain" which is kinda, sorta -flavored. (It's also kinda, sorta -flavored but that's more because of the mana burn effect.)

It's odd that mana stealing was given to Ice in two forms: craftable Winter Moon, and rank 10 Lord of Winter.

Sun Serpent is arguably the best, it's a quasi-AOE spell with a frontloaded primary hit. Worth crowns to get.

Storm is almost but not quite worth crowns henchmen. No combat tricks on Owl means you may find yourself preferring boosted Levy. Exceptions are farming Cipactli when you just want to one-hit her for >25k so she doesn't frank you.

I'd say: Unless you're Fire, Ice, Storm, or Myth, try to do the spell quest without spending any crowns. If you don't succeed after a few tries, leave it and come back to it. In Balance's case, maybe just leave it and go craft Savage Paw instead.

Oh, no, you're not wrong. Anyone should have access to these spells as long as they are of the corresponding school and level (so a Level 17 Death wizard really shouldn't have Storm Owl at all). I think it would be in KI's interest to bring down the challenge a notch to allow more players to get these spells and better play through Azteca. Though at level 88, I'd prefer not to be a walk through the park (but not insanity as some may put it as it is now. Challenging but not impossible, yes?)

To not confuse you, though, when I said I was ok with the spells as they are, I was refering to their design, animation, and description as those were things people backlashed at the most to me. The challenge could come down to better allow players continuity in the world.
