Do pet snacks really count toward the pet's talents. I've heard myths that they do matter but other people say that the talents are randomly chosen when they are hatched. Since I have a pet with Fire Giver, Spell Proof and Spell Defying will giving my pet Mystic Dragon Fruits or Cherry Tomatoes affect me getting Fairy Friend or Fire Dealer?

No. The snacks you feed your pet while training it have no bearing on the talents it will get. First generation pets get a random selection of the talents inherent to that particular pet, and hatched pets get a random selection of whichever talents its two parents had.

Talents are given randomly when the pet hatches (1st generation OR hatched pets). What you feed it makes no difference at all. The only bonus from feeding it food it likes/loves is that it will "grow" level up quicker.
