Hi all

It seems that my native school spells (pyro) don't cost me any training points. I just need to reach a certian level to be able to learn those. Will it be so throughout the game?

Then training points are to learn other school spells?
Is it better to concentrate on 1 additional school then? Not to get stuck with a lot of low level spells?

You get training points every four levels through level 20, then you get one every five levels (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50) plus one from each of the 5 Zeke quests...etc.

You can use these to buy spells from other schools, Just go tothe other school, ask the teacher to train, and spend the point.

There are other trainers as you advance...so plan well as you never seem to have enough.

It would be hard for me to tell you how to spend your training points without knowing your playing style, but I can tell you it would be a bad idea to spend them all on a complete secondary school. The reason this is a bad idea is due to power pips. In the beginning, you don't get them very often, so it may seem like it will be that way throughout the entire game - it won't be. You will eventually get more power pips than regular, and using an off school attack spell will become an awful (and potentially deadly) waste of pips. (which in turn equals a waste of training points)

Instead, you may want to take some time and look at all the schools to see what they have to offer. Look for things that will help you with your main school, such as blades and traps (increases the power of your spells), and look for things that will help you with healing and defense. These things will be useful for the entire game, not just in the beginning where you are only getting single pips.

You can get single shields from the character in Wizard City, who is standing on the deck near the mini games. You can get double shields (shields against two different schools of attack) from each of the schools. You will have to spend training points to train up to them.

You can get blades and traps to boost your spells from the tree in Krokotopia. You won't be able to get there right away, though. You have to beat the first area of Krok to get access to the boat, then boat will take you to the place where the tree is.

The Death school also has a boost called Feint. It adds a plus 70% damage trap to your enemy, but also adds a plus 30% damage to you, so be careful where you use it. You will need to train up to this. This one is gotten from Dworgyn (sp?) in Nightside (not from the Death guy in Ravenwood).

There are a few other spells that may come in handy, so be sure to check out all the trainers to see what they have.

the best thing to do is to concentrate on your first school first, then at about lv 5 get a secondary school, you get one training point every 4 levels until level 20 where you must wait a VERY UNFAIR 5 LEVELS plus im level 23 and im death type and myth is my secondary school(its VERY hard to level up from level 20 and im need anotha 2 levels to finaly learn the humongofrog and i hope i helped at least the slightest bit :)

considering your a fire wizard it would be best if you focused all of your training points twoard life, but just until you reach satyr after you learn the spell satyr use the training points on death just untile you reach feint. then after you learn feint focus them on ice school untile you have tower shield this combo is what i think to be the best. because with satyr you can heal your self and other teamates with 860 health at a time. and the feint you can use and its a +70% attack trap (remember it also puts a +70% trap on you but if your good enough that wont matter) and the tower shield will protect you from anything. now you can revers the ice and death order. like going tower shield then feint but always make your first secondary school life. and yes your school of focus will remain with free spells for the whole game.

yeah, it's easier to use training points on one additional school. :-)

Training points are for when you want to learn a spell outside your school of foucs (in your case, fire).

You'll get all fire spells for free when you'll be able to learn them( at the appropriate level.)

Most people say train in Death up to Feint(7 points), and/or Ice up to Tower Shield(4 points), but it's up to you what you want to do with them.

I'm also a Fire Wizard, and I trained in the School of Storm also. and have all storm spells I can learn (minus Storm Shield and Dissipate (storm dispell).

But in the end, it's your choice what you want to do with them, amd of your not satisfied, then you can buy them back by seeing Mr. Lincoln in Golem Court, provided you have enough crowns.

Hope I helped.

As everyone has mentioned you aquire training points for non-school spells, what they failed to mention is that there are shops on each of the first three levels where you can gain more fire spells and have the option to purchase similiar spells meant for other school.
wizards city- carnival Sabrina Greenstar offers shields and a stun block
collosus(?)blvd Mildred Farseer offers resuffle, life trap, and fizzle cards for fire, ice, and storm
in the sunken city Mortis the death tree has spells to, mostly to attract or reduce attacks on your character(useless if you are soloing)
kroktopia-Niles offers triple blades and traps broken into two set spirit and elemental
On the roof of the secret shop Tish`mah offers minionbuffs for myth characters
marleybone in digmore station be hind the mayor is a staircase leading to Croaky who has class specific minion spells

As for you and your character go have fun you will never know exactly what you want until you try things out,i would suggest life since you are new( no one likes to die) understand this is your proto type character you will make better ones later when you know more ,so go kick the tires and light the fires.

thank you all for the help
especially conorjak7 - your post was most concrete

i think I will learn tower shield right away...
it costs 0, thus lets you gain pips and at the same time protects you from ANY school

satyr is nice, but since I mostly play solo - there seems to be little difference between satyr and 2 x standard heals.. more or less same hp gained and same cost too.. or is there somethig I miss? except for not being able to heal the others...

then probably feint.. but that would take a lot of time...

im lv 16 now.. and what I miss most is an aoe spell to dmg all the enemies... but it's available only at lv22 in fire school (meteor strike)

there is lv 16 balance aoe spell (sandstorm).. yet nobody mentioned it.. so it's probably not worth taking.. pity

If you have not spent your training points yet, I agree tower shield is an excellent choice. I would suggest getting the sprite from life because it is a useful heal (300 total) and you will not always be alone. One gameplay suggestion since you are fire do not worry about setting traps unless you have a single shot attack you are going to use, almost half you attack spells work over three rounds so just put blades in your deck to make the spell stronger and when you get it use wildfire to give all your attacks an instant bonus.

As for feint, as you read go for that last. I believe it take 7 training points the only question being whether you want to make use of the death spells before you are smothered in power pips or your just saving them up to get the feint spell. remember at this point you only get I believe 17 taining points to spend on other school spells so plan ahead and think it through.
GOOD LUCK

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't waste the training points training up to sandstorm. It's a fairly weak spell, and you probably won't have a balance/generic boost to boost it. More than likely, you would have to cast sandstorm, and then two more individual attack spells to finish off your enemies.

Tower shield is a good choice, but don't forget to get your free fire shield from the girl in the Wizard City mini game area.

I also suggest saving 2 of your training points for using to get the elemental traps and blades from Niles, the Balance tree in Krokatopia...Helps give you boosts in battle for your primary school.

The fire/ice/storm elemental trap is available at level 15, life/death/myth trap at level 20, and both the elemental and spirit blades at level 25. If your character hasn't reached the quests that allow you to the island for those spells, have a friend who has, go to the tree and you can teleport to them, then mark the location so you can return at those levels.

Also, when picking your secondary and third schools, try to pick the schools that can benefit from the trap spells you get from Niles. That way, you're not 'wasting' the boosts given by the trio trap/blade boosts that aren't your primary school or having to use training points to get the additional trap/blade boosts. 8)
