Besides, your hand covers the handel and a wavy/jagged blade can obscure the hilt. Why put extra detail into something that won't be seen clearly? I guess they could put a decroration on the other end of the handle... We could also pretend that swords from a specific world all look similar. I noticed alot of swords from celestia have basket hilts.
