Someone just told me in game that bosses are now dropping different pets, then the ones they once had is this true.
Also on wizard101central.com there is a pet guide by Edward Icespear, and someone has also posted a comment saying the same thing. like Grubbs in Sunken City gives out a Ghoul and and Artic Serpent.
