What was it like for older players. Before Aquila.
I have actually had my first wizard since before Avalon but I was a noob so I didn't know what gear was good so I am asking when you were level 30 and up what was the best gear for you to wear since way back when you didn't have senators gear or Zeus gear to farm for so what did you have to do to survive while soloing. I am thinking about making these kind of questions a series.

Woah this takes me back. When my first character was level 30, I wasnt that much into crafting so I would buy the gear that gave the most health and damage from the Bazaar. I did that every 5 levels up until I got to level 60 and was able to farm for the infamous WW gear.

Nicholas RavenBlood100 and more..
I still do that. I find farming Olympus a pain, just for gear that will be obsolete in 10-15 levels. Though I have to admit the Olympus gear looks better, as the mooshu-themed stuff at level 35 and 40 is pretty lame looking, especially the hats. The wands that look like katanas are cool, though.

when i started, celestia was brand new and the level cap had just been raised to 60. it was my first-ever mmorpg, and i had no idea what i was doing.
by the time waterworks was released a few months later, i had one wizard at max and took her through approximately 6 times to get her full set of gear (that was normal back then, since mastery amulets didn't exist and people weren't over-farming for them).
so yeah, i had my waterworks set. before that, though, it was just bazaar gear; it wasn't until my second wizard got to wintertusk that i discovered the level 56 crafted gear.
as for the rest of my wizards (who were under level 50 at that time), they just wore 1) whatever i could find in the bazaar, or 2) whatever school-specific/no-auction drops my first wizard managed to throw into her shared bank. pets were an afterthought, but i remember being really excited when i finally got my first one (a starfish from celestia) with sprite.
to survive as a solo player, i used to stuff my deck full of as many cards as i could (which, in retrospect, was a terrible idea; it took me running out of cards during a boss battle in avalon before i realized the true value of reshuffle). no one taught me anything about deck setup, so i improvved.
