Can only use starter deck

I bought a Novice Life Deck from the dealer in the shopping district, but I can't get it to stay put when I want to use it for battle. How do I keep the new deck from reverting back to the old starter deck?

Open your backpack.
Find your Novice Life Deck.
Double click it until there is a little hand on the left hand side telling you it is "equipped".
