The only way you can get the Hydra pet is by becoming a level 48 Balance wizard.All schoools get a different pet for example Fire gets Hellephant and Life gets Satyr.(sp?) Fiona FairyBreath Fire level 44 currently can not find her main quest in Dragonspyre Good luck! :-) :-) :-) :-)
Each school obtains a school pet that is a copy of the creature summoned for a specific spell (and obtain the card for said spell).
Pyromancers recieve the Helephant. Balance mages recieve the Hydra. Necromancers recieve the Wraith. Diviners recieve the Stormzilla. Theurgists recieve the Satyr. Myth recieves an Orthrus. and finally Thaumaturges get an Ice Colossus.
Note that each of these school-specific pets can be mixed with each other to get special-looking hybrids (Helephant + Ice Colossus, for instance, can give you a Colossus that's made from fire).
Does fire get Helephant? I always assumed that it was a dragon for Fire Dragon.

Yes. Fire wizards do get Helephant at level 48.
