According to the story line, when the Dragon Titan was released, it destroyed everything, but left Ashely and the Fire School alone since it was Fire type.
BTW although the Death school tree remains intact, it really is ... um ... dead.

I know the death tree is technically dead but if you look at it it actually moves and has slight facial expressions. Not exactially acting like it is dead though.
