I think its because when you sacrifice a minion with a spell, the spell deals damage to the minion. I guess my minion was like, 25% more sacrificed! :-)

That is exactly right. The sacrifice spells deal damage of the type they are. If you are Fire school then you might want to purchase the Stork version to prevent using up your Fire Blades for example.
