I know this game wasn't originally developed for Mac. I used to play it on my work PC with my nephew when he had a Windows 7 Lenovo laptop (I hope my boss isn't reading this. Hah). I've since given him my old iMac after I bought a Macbook. We recently started playing the game again since we learned the game has a Mac client now. However, it seems as though every update made to the game just adds more and more bugs to the Mac client.
I'm not going to pretend I know the first thing about programming, I have no idea. I'm sure it's difficult to port over a game from a PC environment to a Mac, let alone maintain both at once. The game currently pushes my laptop's average temperature to 70~ degrees Celsius with my fans running on max speed, and my nephew's early 2011 iMac sometimes can't even run the game. The FPS is terrible at points, and perfect at others.
I don't want to boot camp my Mac. It has become my work computer and I just don't have the space for the partition. I know that would be the best option at this point though. I was just wondering what KI's stance on the Mac client was (I know you guys are fantastic about responding to forum posts from fans, even on other forums and such) and if any other Mac users were having the same troubles I am.

Awesome. :) Thanks, Greyrose. I'll send them an e-mail too and see if they have any ideas.
I'm thinking it may be the updates Apple's doing to the OS that are inadvertently causing me issues. My friend said since he installed a recent version of Yosemite, a game he bought from the App Store just crashes after a certain point, whereas before the update it was running perfectly.
Professor Greyrose, have you personally run Wizards101 on a mac?
After completing every quest in every world and doing over 1000 pvp matches with my Balance wiz on my mac, a friend loaned me a pc laptop to try the game in naitive mode.
Besides the amazingly fantastic responsiveness I experience when moving the character on a pc, there are two other issue that should be of MAJOR concern to KI, maybe folks are not aware of them because it is rare to use both platforms.
1. Crowns shop. in the (emulated) mac version of the game, the crowns shop is terribly sluggish. I can remember times when questing alone in a boss battle when I would take three or four turns to successfully purchase a henchman, because the clicks simply do on register in the crowns shop. So my decision to purchase a henchman was often tempered by the knowledge that I might die in the time it would take to make the transaction go through. I would think that KI would at the very least put effort into optimizing the CROWNS SHOP transactions in the Mac programming, since that would actually show up in the bottom line.
2. Treasure Cards in pvp. There is simply no comparison. To draw or delete a single card on my mac takes between 5 and 8 seconds. On the pc it is virtually instant. My pvp record is a little better than 50-50, but I estimate that it would be better than 60-40 in my favor if my access to TC in pvp had been what it is on the PC. When I watched youTube videos of pvp I always thought they speeded up the TC draws because I simply could not imagine being able to adjust my deck so fast during a match. I am currently re-vamping my strategy to account for this.
Although the game runs on a mac, and my lvl 100 balance shows it can be done, there is simply no comparison between the gaming experience in regards to crowns shop, character navigation, and drawing TC. I have to wonder if KI has really sincerely tested these aspects on a normal mac on a normal connection. It is a different game on the PC.

I haven't had these issues on my Macs. There is a slight sluggishness in comparison to playing on a new PC, but the Mac is 4 years older, so no surprise. It's really no different on Mac and PC. The only thing I have found is that on Mac the game needs to be restarted after a couple hours of play because it starts to lag from memory use building up. As for your 3-4 rounds to get henchman... I've had no problems buying 3 in 1 round while still casting a spell, so I don't know what's happening there with you.
