i recently equipped a defense opal to my wizard's gear for extra resistance, but when i get attacked by any ,, or creatures i don't resist the attacks. why will the jewel not help me resist those attacks?

Defense jewels lower straight damage not resist percentage. So a 20 defense lowers the attack by 20 points damage, not 20% damage.

It might not show in but the Jewels help with flat resist. (duh)
