A little while ago, some people complained about Glowbug Squall. The shadow enhanced spells are comparable to the 10 pip spells in damage and effects. Storm Owl hits around 1600. Glowbug squall deals about 500 less. So it would make sense for it to be an AoE. The removing charms part makes up for the damage.
