Is this really a glitch?
the pet jellyfish is a quest reward.
in future, if you want to know what a quest is going to give you as a reward, go to your quest journal and look at the bottom of each square: for example, a piggle with wings means that a pet will be your reward; a graduation-cap means xp, and a cracker-looking thing denotes a pet snack reward.

If it was a gift, it's in a present box, but if its a quest reward, it comes single. for ex: Robe, hat; etc. but with a present, it shows the gift list
