This is a frustrating quest where the monster you need to kill only spawns periodically, and has a low drop rate for the item you need. So you spend a lot of time killing monsters to try to get the target to spawn.
This is NOT particularly fun. I think of it as a tedium quest -- to get the reward, you have to endure a lot of tedium. I thought part of the point of Wizard 101 -- in its original design, anyway -- was to dispense with a lot of the "endurance" elements that had plagued other MMOGs. (Obviously in the service of appealing to kids, but also their parents.)
