really the only reason I am asking why people like pierce is because everyone seems to use pierce blades in pve. also on the forums people seem to just love it on gear no matter what. I mean how does pierce help you in pve I just don't understand it because if im fighting a fire boss I am gonna use a prism. pierce is awesome though in pvp ill admit that but I just feel like pierce is nerfing out gear by taking up stats in gear that could be extra damage boost or even accuracy boost. I just think pierce should be a more pvp focused stat and should only be put on gear that's meant for pvp.

The amount of armor piercing on most gear is pretty small.
It's not clear from your post why you're upset about people using spears (pierce blades) in PVE. It has nothing to do with the amount of armor piercing on gear.
You will occasionally meet a boss or mob that spams towers or elemental shields far in excess of your ability to remove them cost-effectively.
This is why you want to use spears, infallible, piercing enchants, and the Pierce spell along with prism to make sure you're not wasting a 9-pip damage spell against 70+ resist.
If you've ever been in Azteca fighting ice or balance monsters then you know what I mean.

Being a Death Wizard with our self hit spells (Empower, Bad Juju, Dark Pact and Sacrifice), Pierce isn't the most helpful stat to have as it can lower our resist and then make us take more unnecessary damage. However, despite that, I really like to see Pierce on my set, kinda just to have it. It may not get the most use compared to Damage or Accuracy, but it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
Let's put in a better PvE scenario. We all have to fight an Ice boss or mob every now and again. This gets annoying because Ice mobs and bosses are known for using Tower Shield. Now let's move up to Azteca. Ice mobs and bosses can now access Volcanic Shield and Legion Shield. For this reason, Fire could use any extra pierce they could get. You can't prism because Ice will just resist it. You can definitely use a combo of Extraodinary and Infallible, but that will only take you so far and Extraodinary is rarely trained these days. An extra amount of Pierce can help in there situations. And for Death, extra pierce can help for those Tower Shields and Legion Shields (or Death Shields from Life in the lower worlds).
With Pierce on more dropped gear, this allows players to have a set to be more well rounded for PvE and PvP. If you do a lot of both, then you'll have one set with Pierce on it to work in PvP but be strong enough to hold off the challenges in PvE. That comes in handy as opposed to switching between sets!
Pierce is indeed more situational, but so is Stun Resist, a commonly requested stat on dropped gear. Stun Resist only works against a stun and, well, only Myth and Ice really put Stunning into use. But, it is much better to have Pierce so incase of some shielding surprises (and as we've seen from Azteca, enemies' decks are getting smaller and more varied) to fall back on, then to have none. Of course, like any of the advanced stats, it's optional to have. Don't want it? Leave it out! Build your strategy how you wish to. There are many other spells a Wizard can learn to gain Pierce.
Personally, I like having some on new gear sets. While it does sacrifice other areas of power for it, it's like a step up in our own power, which in some cases I can see worth it (but not every area, no). I mean when Critical and Critical Block were added, some gear sets when down in other stats. But it did add more power one way or another. With more variety in gear sets, you don't have to switch between so many gear sets, and, in some cases, Pierce can be a life saver.
In the higher level worlds such as Avalon and Azteca, enemies sometimes use fortify. Pierce does help neutralize the resist from that spell. Also, if the enemy casts first, they may use a shield on the same round you are casting a damage spell. Those are the reasons I use armor piercing in PvE.

I sometimes just have fun with my infallible casting pet and my 15% pierce, but I do agree that mana<pierce<everything else.

Well people go crazy for pierce because no we have enough pierce to almost wreck a tower shield which is great for Player versus Player and pierce will stop immunity and in Player versus computers enemies will stack shields and you need that pierce or shatter. I like it for all purposes. Critical
