Hey there, I'm a very avid player of this game, and am in Cloudburst Forest, questing and leveling up (highest wizard is level 88 so far), hopefully to get to Promethean one of these days.
Until not too long ago, I had forgotten Mana Burn was even a spell (my balance has it, but never used it). Then I came across those Shadow Weaver Prowlers. Oh man. I never thought I'd see a mob that uses that spell so much. I recently started to notice, though, that their Mana Burn takes ALL of my pips, instead of the 3 it says on the card. And, as I stated previously, they use that spell a ton. So, it can get really infuriating. Both my friend and I have experienced having all 7 of our power pips being erased in one spell, and I have wanted to get up and turn off my computer on many occasions.
So, this is something I would like to understand. Do I have the context of the spell card wrong? does it take 3 pips from the enemy PER one of their pips or something (kinda confusing, I know)? Or, is this a bug that needs fixing? I would love to know this.
IIRC mana burn blows up three pips, if they happen to be power pips it doesn't matter. Three dots on your floorboard will disappear and you will take some damage.
I was sitting on pips to forest lord and they were going first. The last guy in the circle blew my pips up in my face leaving me with one white pip. When it came around to my spell, nothing happened cause my pips were gone.

It's strange how pip destroying spells don't seem to work the same way on all wizards. Whenever my ice gets hit with something like Mana burn or Lord of Winter and i'm attacking that round, i'm still able to cast my spell without the pips. Though for some reason, my death experiences the same thing you do. It's very confusing

I wish it had happened like you had described it, but in actually it didn't. On the turn that I had all 7 power pips, I used a normal Stormblade, and all of my pips were gone by the time it got around to me (one monster had the pips for it, the other didn't, so they both couldn't have used it back to back.). Though, it still let me use the blade of course, I still had to get back all my pips for Storm Owl, when i should have still had 4 power pips afterwards.
Mana Burn removes white pips before removing power pips. So if you had 2 white pips and 3 power pips, Mana Burn would do 8 pips worth of damage, and remove 2 white pips and one power pip.
I don't know about in PVE, I'd assume it was the same though, but in PVP if you're going second and cast a spell, and balance wizard goes first and casts mana burn, even if it takes away all 3 of your pips and you have none left, your spell will still cast. -Adam Seafist lvl 87
