i know a few players have hooked up gardening spells to magic buttons or whatever in their home and i was wondering if i hook up garden spells to buttons would it consume my energy and/or would it count as taking care of plant needs?

It's just showing the animation not really casting the spell. Your energy won't be affected but also your plant needs won't be seen to if you attempt to use it instead of casting the spell!
